The Role

As a Data Center Engineer, you will maintain and optimize our global data center environments. You will leverage your IT infrastructure knowledge to solve business issues and independently pursue improvement opportunities. Your responsibilities will include:

• Installing and cabling switches, servers, and appliances in our data centers and co-locations.
• Coordinating server and network equipment installation with remote support.
• Managing power and space allocation, including capacity planning and monitoring.
• Maintaining clean and consistent cable management practices.
• Tracking and managing spare parts and cable inventory.
• Performing break-fix repairs, replacing components like hard drives, memory, and transceivers.
• Planning and executing data center build-outs, relocations, and new equipment installations.
• Managing logistics for equipment shipping to remote co-locations.
• Maintaining comprehensive data center documentation and supporting the standardization of procedures.
• Contributing to the build and maintenance of our core office IT infrastructure, including the trading floor.
• Troubleshooting and testing cabling (fiber and copper) using cable testers.
• Supporting system builds, configuration, and troubleshooting as needed.

Requirements

Technical Skills:

• Experience working in modern, large-scale data centers.
• Ability to identify basic parts of network equipment and servers.
• Knowledge of structured cabling systems (Cat 5, Cat 6, multi-mode, and single-mode fiber).
• Familiarity with power and communications cabling standards.
• Experience with cable testers for troubleshooting cabling issues.
• Understanding of change control processes.
• Basic server operating system installation and configuration skills.
• Strong documentation skills and meticulous attention to detail.

Non-Technical Skills:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Creative problem-solving mindset with innovative ideas for data center operations.
• Experience leading or coordinating infrastructure projects from conception to completion.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced environments.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs (or 30 kg).
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, for physical infrastructure changes.
• Willingness to travel to support regional data center operations.
