The Role

As the Director of Engineering for MetaDefender Email Security, you will take charge of the engineering processes for both on-premises and cloud-native deployment models. This role is not just about management; it requires a hands-on approach to architecture, delivery, and quality assurance.

Responsibilities

• Lead AI-first initiatives, integrating AI agents into team workflows for enhanced productivity.
• Remain actively involved in the codebase, contributing to architecture, critical code, and prototyping.
• Own the end-to-end delivery of the product roadmap, translating product management directives into actionable engineering plans.
• Establish technical direction and make key architectural decisions for high-assurance environments.
• Build and manage a high-performance engineering team across Romania and Hungary, fostering a culture of excellence.
• Implement a performance-based management system to recognize and develop top talent.
• Ensure a security-first approach in code reviews, identifying potential vulnerabilities.
• Continuously improve engineering processes, enhancing velocity and reliability in product delivery.
• Document AI-native practices to facilitate knowledge sharing across OPSWAT teams.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and effective execution of product goals.

Requirements

• Proven experience with full agentic, AI-powered software development lifecycle in high-security environments.
• Experience launching products using AI-assisted development processes.
• At least 8 years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years in leadership roles.
• Strong track record of building high-performing teams through effective performance management.
• Deep technical knowledge of software engineering principles and scalable systems.
• Experience leading distributed teams across different countries and time zones.
• Excellent communication skills, able to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Security-conscious mindset, prioritizing security in all aspects of engineering.

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with email technologies and protocols.
• Experience with cloud services like M365 or Google Workspace.
• Knowledge of the .NET/C# ecosystem.
• Experience with cloud-native platforms and container technologies.
• Background in authoring AI context files and integrating AI into CI/CD pipelines.
