In this PhD project, you will tackle the challenge of accurately sensing microclimate variability in greenhouses and vertical farms. Your research will involve developing innovative experimental approaches to understand heat, CO2, and moisture transfer dynamics. You will create and test various microclimate sensing setups, comparing them against reference sensors at Unifarm (WU). The ultimate goal is to establish a network of autonomous climate boxes equipped with IoT solutions for data communication. Additionally, you will analyze temperature, water vapor, and CO2 profiles to explore flux-gradient relationships within the canopy.

You will work closely with a team of PhD researchers, postdocs, and industry partners, under the supervision of Marie-Claire ten Veldhuis and Bas van de Wiel. The collaborative environment includes weekly joint sessions to foster effective teamwork.

Vereisten

• MSc in applied physics, atmospheric science, or a related field.
• Relevant project or thesis experience in experimental work.
• Strong team player with a passion for interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Proficient in written and spoken English.

• 4-year employment period with an initial 1.5-year contract and a follow-up contract based on performance.
• Salary ranging from €3059 to €3881 gross per month, plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus.
