The Role

As a Principal Embedded Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and verify safety-critical real-time software. You will manage software requirements, test procedures, and results reporting while directing test performance and software fixes. Exposure to software classification and certification is essential.

Responsibilities

• Understand the client’s software development processes and methodologies.
• Develop high-level software requirements and detailed low-level specifications, including software design documentation.
• Design low-level software architecture aligned with system requirements.
• Develop deterministic software using real-time operating systems (RTOS) or bare-metal environments for safety-critical and mission-critical applications.
• Perform hardware-software integration, including development of board support packages (BSPs), device drivers, and interfaces for protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, and Ethernet.
• Conduct Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing using tools such as JTAG debuggers and logic analyzers.
• Facilitate meetings and deliver presentations to stakeholders, providing updates on the status of software development.

Mentoring

You will provide guidance to junior engineers regarding embedded software development practices, assist in upskilling team members, supervise the quality of work from junior staff, and mentor and train junior personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or equivalent.
• 18 years of experience in embedded software engineering, with at least 5 years in Missile, Defense, UAVs, or other Avionics Systems.
• Knowledge of embedded software development and experience in the military/aviation industry.
• Proficiency in C/C++ and mission-critical embedded software development.
• Understanding of RTOS fundamentals, version control systems (SVN/GIT), issue tracking systems (JIRA), and requirements management systems (JAMA).

Nice to Have

• Honors or Master's Degree in Electronic Engineering or Computer Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in avionics embedded software development.
• Familiarity with MISRA C/C++ coding standards and DO-178C safety-critical software development life cycles.
• Ability to integrate code generated from MATLAB/Simulink.
• Basic understanding of guidance, navigation, and control.
