This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is seeking a Senior Back-end Engineer - PHP, Node.js based in the Netherlands. In this role, you will design and develop reliable, scalable backend systems that support commerce solutions used globally. You will work in a collaborative environment that values both product thinking and technical excellence, combining hands-on development with architectural decision-making and performance optimization.

Design, develop, test, and deploy high-quality backend solutions that are scalable, reliable, and maintainable.

Primarily work with PHP or Node.js, while also developing expertise in both backend ecosystems.

•

Design and enhance high-load architectures using distributed systems principles, Domain-Driven Design, CQRS, and modern software engineering practices.

•

Collaborate with Product Managers and stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.

•

Take ownership of technical initiatives from design to implementation, testing, and continuous improvement.

•

Identify technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and opportunities for platform improvements, prioritizing based on business impact.

•

Contribute to engineering quality through code reviews, refactoring, unit testing, and CI/CD.

•

Troubleshoot complex issues and optimize application performance while maintaining reliable production systems.

•

Participate in knowledge-sharing sessions and mentoring opportunities, continuously improving engineering practices.

•

Utilize AI-assisted development tools and LLMs effectively for various development tasks.

Vereisten

•

5+ years of professional backend software development experience with strong proficiency in PHP or Node.js.

•

Experience designing and developing high-load systems and distributed architectures.

•

Solid understanding of software engineering principles and best practices, including SOLID, TDD, CI/CD, and Agile methodologies.

•

Hands-on experience with backend technologies such as PHP 8.1+, Symfony, Laravel, Yii2, Doctrine, or similar frameworks.

•

Familiarity with databases and infrastructure technologies like MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, AWS, Kubernetes, and Docker.

•

Strong debugging, testing, and problem-solving skills.

•

Product-minded approach to prioritize technical work based on business value.

•

Strong sense of ownership and accountability, capable of working independently.

•

Good spoken and written English communication skills.

•

Practical experience using LLMs and coding assistants like Claude or GitHub Copilot is expected.

•

Strong collaboration skills and willingness to contribute through code reviews and teamwork.
