Koda Staff is exclusively partnering with GAMING1 to find a Senior Database Reliability Engineer for their expanding Platform Engineering team. This position merges database engineering with platform engineering, focusing on PostgreSQL and messaging systems that support Product Engineering across the organization.

The Role

As a Senior Database Reliability Engineer, you will treat relational data and messaging as code, developing reliable, scalable, and self-service platform capabilities for Product Engineers. Your main focus will be on PostgreSQL using CloudNativePG, alongside managing RabbitMQ operations and reusable messaging patterns in a regulated environment. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive on infrastructure reliability, automation, and developer empowerment.

Responsibilities

• PostgreSQL Platform Ownership: Manage the PostgreSQL golden path on CloudNativePG, overseeing provisioning, upgrades, backup/restore, replication, high availability, and observability as code. Provide self-service database capabilities to Product Engineering teams.
• Messaging & Platform Reliability: Operate RabbitMQ in collaboration with the Platform Engineering team, build reusable messaging patterns, and enhance the reliability and scalability of the messaging infrastructure.
• Self-Service & Platform Enablement: Develop safe, scoped platform primitives for independent use by Product Engineers, identify adoption signals and operational bottlenecks, and continuously enhance platform usability and developer experience.
• Security, Compliance & Observability: Implement security and compliance requirements into platform capabilities, manage access controls and encryption standards, and maintain telemetry and observability using Datadog and related tools.
• Engineering Leadership: Mentor peers on PostgreSQL and Kubernetes-stateful patterns, elevate standards for automation and operational rigor, and contribute to ongoing improvements within the Platform Engineering organization.

Requirements

• Core Background:
  • 5+ years of experience operating PostgreSQL in production at scale.
  • Familiarity with high availability, replication, backup/restore, and performance tuning.
  • At least 2 years in a platform or Infrastructure-as-Code environment.
  • Strong experience with Kubernetes for stateful workloads.
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform and Ansible.
  • Solid understanding of GitOps / CI/CD practices.
• Technical Expertise:
  • PostgreSQL in high-scale production settings.
  • RabbitMQ or similar production-grade messaging systems.
  • Experience with Datadog or equivalent observability tools.
  • Knowledge of secure configuration and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Strong automation mindset and platform-oriented thinking.
• Highly Valued Experience:
  • Familiarity with CloudNativePG (CNPG), PostgreSQL in regulated industries, MongoDB / MongoDB Atlas, VMware or Nutanix, Prometheus / Grafana, and Python or Go for tooling and automation will enhance your profile.
